Najib's racist side

Najib's speech on the Federal Constitution in the 2011 UMNO General Assembly refers.

This year about 20 Malays in my company lost their jobs. 25% of them had been with the company for more than 10 years. Their jobs went to people of another nationality of lower wages. In another case last year an entire division within my company situated in another Asian country closed down and their jobs went to Malaysians. These guys who lost their jobs were Chinese. As a result of globalization, jobs go from one country to another by passing race and color. The name of the game is cost and efficiency. Najib is misaligning the Malays in Malaysia on a tangent off nation-building- having 'special rights' does not contribute to economic growth.

I was buying into the 1Malaysia concept slowly already but Najib just blew his own baby away (plus many million bucks in terms of PR fees related to 1Malaysia) with that UMNO speech. So long Najib does not begin to align UMNO from being racially-focussed, UMNO is just a big Klu Klu Khan outfit.

I don't know there was something burning

I got to hand it to IGP who comes up with the best bureaucratic reply ever,

“He did not tell me so it did not happen,”

IGP denies Kg Subang church attack and car-smashing in Bangsar

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 8 – IGP Tan Sri Musa Hasan denied reports of a church attack in Kampung Subang even though Selangor CPO Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar had confirmed the incident.

Yep the same chap who scored above full points for his KPI, an astonishing 113.8%
What say you, Koh Tsu Koon?

Pakatan wants UMNO to take the responsibility of one of the darkest moment in Malaysia's history. Of course, after just launching 1Malaysia clinic as a Prime Minister for all Malaysians, Najib says his team is not responsible for it.

“Don’t point the fingers at Umno or anyone else. We have always been very responsible. Don’t say this attack is motivated by Umno,” said Najib

Ok, if I give Najib the benefit of doubt and he earns his salary from our tax money and he is entrusted with the responsibility of running the country, can he at least let us know who are responsible for contempt of court, betrayal of all religion, treason to the nation and threatening the lives and properties of their fellow countrymen?

We are not Rwanda, Bosnia, Sulawesi and I damn well do not want to share their history. If you have gone through what they have gone through, you will value peace and harmony more than whatever that lies between your legs, seriously.

Nizar, the rightful Perak MB if I have a choice, have set aside disaster relieve funds. If the PM want to earn some brownie points or pick up the pieces, well, it will look good later in newspapers, billboards and GE posters......

As for the voters, please remember what happened today. Would you want an administration that would allow us to degenerate into a Sulawesi?

Will the local religious terrorists be brought to books? So far, people who threatened the security of the nation by cycling, giving teddy bear to prime ministers, holding candles, being lawyers visiting clients in police station, being cooperative witnesses have all been dealt with swiftly and in one way or the other by the law enforcement agencies of this country.

Apart from some delays with regards to certain people who have issues with a head of a cow, the law enforcement agencies seemed to be able to react if they are interested or instructed. Let's see whether PDRM can justify Koh Tsu Koon's above full marks valuation.

And I would like to see what the Royalties have to say about this. His Royal Highness have a pivotal religious role in this country and I hope His Royal Highness can exercise his wisdom and address this serious issue and save our country.

Nazri slagging off his old boss

Nazri calls Dr M a racist for defending BTN

By Asrul Hadi Abdullah Sani

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 7 — Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz has called Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad a “bloody racist” for defending the Biro Tata Negara (BTN) courses, and reasserted the Cabinet’s earlier decision to overhaul the programme.

Nazri pointed out to reporters in Parliament today that patriotism was not meant only for the Malays but for all Malaysians.

The above exchange just makes me wonder:

How come the status of a man who was so reverred until demi-god status can drop so low after retiring a few years ago? Compared to someone the grand old man despised, the other guy recently was called a legend by the first non-white President of the United States.

How much does UMNO value and respect its past leaders once he or she step down? Apart from Mahathir, Rafidah was reverred, so was Anwar at the high of his influence in UMNO.

What will be the reaction of DPM as the DPM himself was defending BTN openly not so long ago?

Here is an update since the outburst.

- DPM seemed muted and diplomatic...or is there simmering under currant not apparent to us outsiders?

- if Badawi's administration was riddled with his lieutenant's contradicting each other, Najib's one appears to be the same; so much for strong leadership.

- BN can't claim in-fighting as the sole characteristic and sign of disquiet of Pakatan Rakyat. If anything, Pakatan Rakyat's squabble is usually inter-party (a departure from BN where 1 party calls the shots over others) whereas in UMNO and MCA as well as MIC, the intra-party struggle are more prevalent.

Nazri is a smart man and he has the ability to talk cock with a straight face. The above talk back was 1 statement I agree with him thoroughly.

However, just google up his past deeds and one wonders why he does not articulate the things he probably know is right, but sticking to the host of nonsense like Lingam is innocent crap.

YB Lim Kit Siang's blog carries plenty of Nazri's excellent adventures:

Nazri insists Kelantan not entitled to oil royalty

Lingam Tape –
Nazri’s lame excuse and test for Cabinet tomorrow

How did
Nazri (Protocol No. 16) become Minister for Ahmad Fairuz, when CJ is No. 11 on protocol list?

Hindraf demo – Indian Parliament in uproar over
Nazri’s outburst

The ‘Stupid, stupid, stupid!’ Minister

Nazri stressed that BTN was funded by public money and that the funds should be spent properly for the betterment of all communities.

- has he been reading my rants? that's my line!

UMNO AGM 2009 # 2: Awang Selamat's comment

I have developed an affection for attention forAwang Selamat at the moment. Perhaps it is down to mid-life crises. I am having a second round of teenage infatutation with someone.

Since Najib has brilliantly articulated that UMNO needs to change, has to change and must change (I wonder who and what made UMNO want to do such a thing, don't they stand for dulu, kini dan selama-lamanya on certain principles?) As a Malaysian who wants to see the country united and progressive, I certainly hope Najib and Khairy can deliver what they said.

It also strikes me that those 2 sounded a bit not unlike what Anwar Ibrahim and DAP been saying all these while. Hope the unproductive labels of "Pengkhianat Melayu" and "Parti Komunis" can be put to rest now.

Name calling on fellow Malaysians should be put into museum. Let's focus on positive campaigning, which Najib and Khairy are trying to do. Proof of the pudding is the eating and believe me, being the one of the most powerful prime ministers in the world, Najib can do whatever he wants with ease.

It is now the man, not the party, we tax payers should evaluate from now. He is the Prime Minister chosen by Badawi and UMNO and technically was not subject to a national referendum via orthodox nation-wide democratic process. It is critical for Najib to build his credential and the recent hike in his approval rate suggest he is going at the right direction.

I wonder what good old Awang Selamat, the think tank of the UMNO mouth piece and moulder of Malay mindset, has to say about the change in tone extrolled in the halls of the AGM?

BISIK-BISIK AWANG SELAMAT

-- ok the customary flattery necessary to keep him in good books of the people who mattered

-- alright, AS sokong tetap sokong but sokong apo?

-- ok, everybody is with Najib on whatever whatever

Bukan semua pemimpin mampu memberikan impak sedemikian.

Awang – Terus bangkit.

-- at the end of the article, you wonder what Awang is grateful, overwhelmed and thrilled about. No comments on Najib's messages about change. No detailed analysis on the nature, reason, justifucation, potential impact of the fundamental changes.

-- lo and behold a fundamental statement on the level of editorial and journalism standard in Malaysia after more than 50 years of Alliance/BN rule

-- the English footy fans usually sing "you don't what what you are doing" when the manager has lost the plot...somehow this tune just started to rumble in my head.

Happy Deepavali and holidays to all Malaysians!

Najib: Umno looks after the welfare of all Malaysians

PUTRAJAYA: The time has come for Umno to be the main political party looking after the interests of all Malaysians, and not only the Malays and bumiputra, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.

This, he added, was in line with the 1Malaysia concept of “People First, Performance Now” that was gaining acceptance from all the races.

“I think we have come to a stage where Umno is seen as a party which looks after the welfare and well-being of all Malaysians,” he said.

______________________________________________________________

Nice words, Prime Minister. Let’s see if there is any proof in the pudding.

Let’s look at how the previous 2 prime minister did when compared to their slogans.

Dr. MahathirBersih, Cekap dan Amanah

Prominant legacy of Mahathir's time is:

* 1988 Judicial Crises
* Lingam Gate
* Perwaja scandal
* Declining university ranking
* Proton car that is complacent, uncompetetive, inefficient, overcharging and passing on all that to debt-bearing and interest paying Malaysians (while the Thais cruise intheir Toyotas)
* Declining strength of the Malaysian Ringgit

Badawi – “Work with me and not work for me

The most memorable results from his premiership is probably

*his wedding,
*Siti Nurhaliza’s wedding,
*an expensive space tourist
*even more money splashed on a certain port facility near Bak Kut Tech Country
*his rushed legacy that created MACC of Teoh Beng Hock fame.

I certainly did not work for the above!

I hope the new Prime Minister buck the trend and can live up to the nice words. Here is a gentle reminder of his priority:-

Malays to remain government’s priority, says DPM

http://www.malaysiainsider.com/index.php/malaysia/34771-malays-to-remain-governments-priority-says-dpm

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 10 — The government will give priority to Malays in whatever programme it carries out, assures Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Hope the big 2 decision makers can clear the air for us tax payers because I am fed up of all these contradictions

Pemuda UMNO melarang aktiviti pendaftaran pengundi, perbalahan tercetus

Terjemahan Laporan Sin Chew Jit Poh 4 Julai 2009

Pendaftaran pengundi cetuskan perbalahan
3 orang cendera termasuk dua orang ADUN

Laporan di akhbar Sin Chew Jit Poh yang berkenaan

Ulasan foto

Najib's era - Re-emergence of Mahatirism or Pak Lah-ism?

Barely a week after Najib's rousing "1 Malaysia, People First, Performance Now", we have his uncontested deputy giving a brilliant interview with Mingguan Malaysia.

This is what Muhyiddin said:

Calling Chinese ungrateful is uncalled for. The Wakil Rakyat assuming the Education Minister post should bear in mind that his official perks come from tax payers' money and he has a fiduciary duty to administer and allocate the money well for the benefit of ALL Malaysians. There is no "budi" involved as the money did not come from his own kocek. It is a job, a noble one. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen (and leave the cookie jar too).

Some people wonder if with Najib, Mahathirism would re-emerge but we are starting off this era with Pak Lah-ism - the top man says nice things while the subordinates run around voicing otherwise. Najib would do well to ensure consistency throught out his team.

Please-lah, DPM, Malay voters like humble politicans, so do Chinese. In order to win back their support, sit down and find out. They are a sensible lot and quite clear with what they want.

Ong Tee Keat is fine with that interview however, I was told.

Muhyiddin: Two years to regain people's trust and confidence

"....leadership at all levels understood the new direction of the party and took measures to revive the party’s image and improve the people’s perception of it..."

Perception? Is that the right word? If it is about perception then mere window dressing would be adequate.
The more proper word should be "conclusion" or "opinion" as only substantive and tangible results can result in conclusions and opinions.

Utusan Malaysia carried the same report but included the statement " ...meningkatkan keyakinan dan kepercayaan, bukan sahaja di kalangan orang-orang Melayu, tetapi masyarakat umum..."

Why must the DPM mention "not only Malays but everybody else..."? Why can't he just say "semua rakyat Malaysia?" Is there still a "them" and "us" mentality? Subconscious at work? Wither "1 Malaysia"?

Brace ourselves for more rhetoric?

When Prime Minister Najib (he will be when you read this sooner than later) announced that he wants to do away / amend or whatever about the quota system for UMNO election, my first impression was good, great, bravo, a step towards greater democracy in UMNO.

Then I thought about 1 potential impact.

Race-base rhetoric or gestures have always been a tried, tested and successful rallying call for aspiring UMNO politicians climbing up the ladder. People progressing through UMNO Youth ranks would try to out perform each other in showmanship then toned down (or "mature") when they reach national level leadership. Cue: Najib circa 1987 and now.

With doing away the quota system, more candidates will have the opportunity to present themselves as an alternative for UMNO members to cast their votes. Will there be more such antics? Will we see more keris-waving, "them and us" remarks etc?

I hope the top echelons in UMNO can lay down a set of rules for do and don't in party election. Their stance in taking action against certain candidates shows some will in reform. By having some house rules, it can help to promote intelligent & substance over form type of contest amongst its candidates.

By the same token, MCA will face more pressure if there is much such gestures and antics.

I am not against positive racism. It is fine to promote the virtues of your own race by emphasizing or advertising the strength of your race (or country for that matter). However, promoting your own race (or your country for that matter) by talking down on other people would not be constructive at all.

UMNO Youth wants ban on the term "Pakatan Rakyat"

The Malaysian Insider

KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 – Umno Youth today suggested that all quarters, including the media, cease using the term “Pakatan Pakyat” to refer to the opposition pact because the loose coalition of opposition parties is not a legitimate entity.

Langkawi Umno Youth Chief Nor Saidi Nayan said the entity called Pakatan Rakyat was not a registered or an approved organisation under the Registrar of Societies’ rules and regulations.

“When was the Pakatan Rakyat approved as an organisation and who made the approval? If there are no approvals, why should the government, our party and the mass media promote this illegal organisation?

“We should ban the use of the term Pakatan Rakyat or any term in reference to any unregistered organisation,” he said when debating the president’s policy speech at the Umno General Assembly here today.

Nor Saidi said that Barisan Nasional (BN), a registed entity comprising political parties which represent the interest of the country’s multiracial community, cannot be equated with the opposition coalition.

“Who is this Pakatan Rakyat?” he asked.
_________________________________________________________________________________
Some people never cease to amaze me. Do you think by stopping publication of a reference term, people would forget it? Pakatan Rakyat, or if Encik Nor Saidi prefers it, coalition of KeAdilan-PAS-DAP came into prominance because of UMNO and BN's decreased level of performance as administrators of the nation. Does he seriously think by banning official channels to mention the term Pakatan Rakyat, all BN's problems will disappear?

Pak Lah spoke about reform. Najib spoke about reform and getting closer to the people and this beauty of a suggestion comes out.

By the way, merely being registered is not an absolute proof of legitimacy, e.g. Balkis (which was de-registered as easily as well). Some of the most powerful coalitions were not registered. The Americans, British, Soviet Union, Canadians, Australians, New Zealanders, Chinese, Dutch, Vichy French etc came together as a coalition and defeated the Axis-power in World War II. Political-theme bloggers, much derided before 8 March 2008 as they had no registered status as controlled main-stream-media, also gained recognition from the official channels.

By the way, can someone confirm if Tunku Abdul Rahman's Alliance was registered? The Old UMNO was technically flawed as well, right?

Who is this Pakatan Rakyat? Among them, they have 5 Chief Ministers (or 4), a Parliament Opposition leader and 82 representative voices at the Parliament as well as many, many state assemblymen and women. That question actually disrespected tax payers and voters who have made their choices. Then again, in a democracy, everyone has the right to make himself or herself look stupid as long as he or she hurt no one else.

Umno foes applaud Pak Lah’s parting shot

The Malaysia Insider

By Lee Wei Lian and Asrul Hadi Abdullah Sani

KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 – In a not-unexpected move, senior Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leaders latched on to one point in outgoing Umno president Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi’s speech this morning: a warning against a return to the “old ways.”

In fact, they were disappointed that he did not speak about the issue more extensively.

In his keynote address at the opening of the Umno General Assembly, Abdullah hit out at anti-reformists in the party saying that those who believed in the “old order” – read Mahathirism – risked hastening the party’s demise.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The above reminds me of Ong Ka Ting's outburst at UMNO as a "bully" after the final results of GE12 were known.

Why can't politicians speak their mind while they are in power? Better late than never but Badawi has missed the chance to become the best Prime Minister the country could ever had.

Turning points in the Malaysian political scene

When I was a school going child, Malaysian politics is about racial segregation, culminating into “Operasi Lallang” in 1987. Hard pressed in the 1990’s election, a photo and an advertisement of bad taste changed the fortunes of a hard-pressed incumbent ruling party and they won that general election. People spoke of opposition parties as if they are a bunch of criminals and good for nothing. Chinese population reject PAS just as Malays would reject DAP.

Fast forward to 2008, the mould cast for so long has been broken. I stood side by side a Malay chap in Keadilan drab waiving a DAP flag in Taman Melati on 8th March. I waived and gave a thumb’s up to a PAS supporter in Seremban on the same day and he replied with a broad smile and another thumbs up. I saw and heard myself, Chinese uncles and aunties, young and supple Chinese in theirs 20s, cheering loudly as PAS Secretary Kamarruddin Jarjis spoke before them in DAP Negeri Sembilan’s fund raising dinner a fortnight ago. These scenarios were most unimaginable when I was in my youthful and supple 20’s or earlier.

Students of history can point out various turning points in history. The course of history is filled with turning points, events that changed the course of events and steered them away from expected chartered voyage.
So, I wonder, what were the events that transformed the thinking of Malaysians from that of the 1970’s – 80’ s to what some of us have come to in the present days.

I have listed down the following as the apparatus or events that I think contributed to the turning point. History is written by the victors and I hope my little piece here can be a reference footnote in times to come.
1. Internet
2. Anwar’s sacking
3. Economic crises of 1997
4. Mahathir’s lack of succession planning
5. Urbanization of Malaysia

Internet
I rank introduction of internet as the most important tool (but not event) in giving rise to the turning point. Internet broke the back of controlled main stream media’s monopoly of propaganda and opportunity to shape public’s opinion & perception.

It allows opposition politicians to disseminate their side of argument and more importantly, via avenues to air readers’ comments, allow common folks to realize many of us feel the same discontentment, anger and frustration. Lim Kit Siang was among the first to exploit usage of blogs and the awareness of his messages increased significantly. Other politicians from both camps follow suit. Personal blogs have become an important part of a politician’s tool of trade.

The writings of the likes of Raja Petra Kamarruddin, M.G.G. Pillai I believe inspire the mushrooming of more and more socio-political blogs. Such blogs mould the thinking of ordinary folks. It rallies support, as in the case of these anti-ISA vigils, the Bersih Campaign Walk and other public gathering. Bloggers are no longer deemed as “unemployed women” as one former minister dismiss them and even given space in national controlled media by the new minister.

Internet news portal like Malaysiakini and lately the Malaysia Insider present a very different view point from the controlled few. They also inspired the emergence of more neutral newspapers such as Sinaran.

Anwar’s sacking in 1997
I would rank this as the most significant event that contributed to the turning point. Prior to Anwar’s sacking, the Malay community would, by and large, united under a feeling of “us and them” mentality. There is no possibility of non-racial political philosophies and political parties to make in roads to the communities’ mindset. Even the imprisonment of Lim Guan Eng following the Malay girl incident has not hit home the message of cross-racial politics but surprisingly, it is the Mahathir vs Anwar saga that provided the point of no-return for it.

The Anwar sacking, sodomy trial and imprisonment ushered in an event I could not imagine at the time – a divided Malay community. If previous differences were fought out and settled behind closed doors within political parties, it was the first time I see Malays, common Malays would dine with me in the same warung or mamak stall that took their frustration and confrontation onto the streets. Devoid of the “Chinese nemesis”, for the first time in my memory, Malays were fighting for justice and against evil.

It may have brought a realization to the Malay community that beside the Chinese bogeymen, there was perhaps more worthy causes to fight for, such as justice and principles of good governance. Subsequent political rallying cries within the Malay community have evolved from the monotonous racial nature into more universal principles of justice, transparency and good governance.

This paradigm shift has brought Malays closer with the Chinese and Indian communities hence the formation of Parti Keadilan and Pakatan Rakyat.

Economic crises of 1997
The demise of the “Asia miracle” then has exposed the terms and concept of “nepotism” and “cronyism” into Malaysian vocabulary. The words and their concept, once made clear to most in Malaysia, helped explain to Malaysians that reasons behind the “haves” and “have nots” have more to do with privileged connection than racial origins. No longer applicable is the common notion that “Chinese are rich because they exploit the Malays”; which I would say, contain some trueth way back in the previous century but the whole truth is worth another article or three.

Mahathir’s lack of succession planning
There is a corporate buzzword “succession planning” whereby new talents are groomed to take over when the incumbent rode into the sunset. Yet, Mahathir has ensure all his capable deputies – Musa Hitam, Razaleigh Hamzah and Anwar Ibrahim have reached their pinnacle in his administration hence a brain drain within the ranks of UMNO and by association, top national leadership. The only deputies whose positions were secured during Mahathir’s premiership were Ghaffar Baba and Abdullah Badawi.

The current criticisms of “flip flop” decision-making, ridiculous public statements made by ministers and uninspiring governance and leadership post-Mahathir era has fueled discontentment and push many neutral voters to vote against Barisan Nasional. I believe these voters can easily revert back to BN if there is improvement in their stewardship but only if UMNO made up lost time in grooming truly capable and fair-minded leaders.

Urbanization of Malaysia
It is easier to practice the “divide and rule” policy of the British colonials when you keep the communities in different parts of the country. However, when you take the Malays from the rural area to urban areas, they would face the same livelihood issues as all the other city dwellers. Mono racial issues can still make some raw nerves tingle but high cost of living, crime rates and unsatisfactory public service delivery systems would water down narrow mono-racial concerns. It also enables people of all races to suffer the same problems and they would have the same rallying calls and common grouses.

The old political capital built on the foundation of racism is still a marketable commodity. Malaysians care more about racial and religious issues than judiciary, corruption, public negligence related issues. I believe, however, patriotic Malaysians should embrace change and adopt what is positive and discard what is negative because no nation can ever progress with deep-rooted and irrational divisive emotions and practices amongst its citizens.

Bravo UMNO!

Bernama - Wednesday, March 18

NAJIB: ALI RUSTAM REMAINS MELAKA CHIEF MINISTER

KUALA LUMPUR, March 17 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said today Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam will remain as the Melaka Chief Minister.

He said Mohd Ali was only prohibited from contesting in the upcoming Umno elections but remained as the chief minister.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Running a political party is so much more demanding......but BRAVO to UMNO when it is due for fighting corruption.

A little Summary

Since March 08, I can remember

1) a little walking and shouting outside Komtar

2) a little gathering and shouting about pigs in Selangor

3) a "squatter conscious" individual and his merry making friends

4) a much bandied about relocation exercise scheduled in the middle of September

5) a much touted 50 person study tour that hitherto, we know nothing about what they learned

6) a respected, tough and hardworking single lady was given a mandatory rest of a fortnight and given plenty of eggs as supplements

7) some re-matches of a certain popularity contest, although the participants are less inclusive than the last big 1 in March

8) some complicated exercise of changing class monitor that involves changing minds of a few, a tree and a few very important people

9) over-pitching of some pictures which compared to what I can get from the internet and that hamsap bookstore, is nothing and I once heard a little boy describing that's what his grandparents, parents and uncles & aunties do anyway.

10) some stubborn member today is given the liberty to play truant for a year while his dad is being hustled to see whether he belongs to the Big House or not

11) what else?????

all I have to say is .....

I hope there is political maturity and respect for common sense when it comes to political gamesmanship in this country.

In vying for power, please respect the basic foundation on which it is built, i.e. confidence and trust of the people on the capability of the political parties who offer to serve and lead.

There should be no place in the voters’ heart for political leadership who thrives and depends on any other means.

The colonists left a bad taste in our mouth but 1 good thing they did left behind was a system and a culture of law and that has set us apart from Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia and Brunei. Is there any patriot would want to give up our advantage?

A letter to Datuk Zaid Ibrahim

Dear Datuk Zaid Ibrahim,

As a law student, we have been thought throughout our course that the rule of law and that upholding the law is of paramount importance should we choose to embark into the legal field. As Hans Kelsen believed, the law is a pure science on its own, in that it should be separated from any form of impurity such as politics, religion and social circumstances. The law then should be upheld above all these elements, and flourish on its own without being manipulated by anyone to use it as a tool of oppression or to gain power.

This is of course, to many people unrealistic and idealistic, as we have seen the law being used for these specific purposes, whether it be within the country or outside of it. I too, at one point believed that we could never achieve this especially in this nation. I see that you have tried over and over again to implement the law reforms direly needed in this country, and time and time again your ideas have been rejected. I used to question your involvement in UMNO, and why someone who seemed to be so genuine in changing this country would be involved with a bunch of corrupt political animals.

Perhaps now I understand, that not every person in BN is evil and corrupt, just like not every Pakatan Rakyat member is angelic and pure. Perhaps you thought that joining the system and implementing change from within would be much more fruitful than criticising from outside. However, I do not think you have failed in your job and responsibilities. I think instead you have succeeded, because you held on to what you believe, and by resigning you have shown the government you will not toe the line in sacrifice of your principles.

For this I applaud you, and I think so do many other Malaysians. In my short history of 22 years, I do not remember any member of the government resigning in protest to the policies of the people in power. You would probably be the first, and you have set the precedent for other well-meaning members of the government as well. You have also set yourself as a role model for students and others in the legal field to ensure that we uphold what we have been thought from day one; the rule of law, believe in justice and equality, and that the law is to protect, not to oppress.

Therefore sir, you have done the right thing, and that is the most important thing to do.

“Always do right - this will gratify some and astonish the rest.”

Has history been rewritten by fools?

Dear fellow malaysians,

I urge you to watch this video here . In my student years not too long ago, I do not recall any of these events in the history books that we studied. All I recall was how UMNO struggled in freeing our nation from the clutches of the British. If this video documentary is true, and I believe it is, judging by the personal accounts of the people interviewed; then we may have been fed with inaccurate historical facts of the struggle of our nation towards 'MERDEKA'.

And judging from the political tactics used by the present government, I am not very much surprised that the British did use the same ploy, and the successors of them are now using the same ideas. Remember, ISA was used to suppress "communist threat" in this country by the British.

After watching the whole documentary, and make sure you watch it, one starts to wonder whether there was any real threat from the communist in the first place...

Our hopes lie in the voters of Permatang Pauh

Why would I vote for DSAI?
1) He is the only hope currently to bring change to Malaysia. He was able to bring the rakyat's hope of a strong opposition to live through Pakatan Rakyat.
2) You may not trust him, but you have to trust his wife and family. For a man to have such strong unfaltering family support, he must be a good man.
3) He has been beaten and downtrodden, could have left the country and build a good life overseas, but chose to stay and fight it out.
4) He has brains, knows what he's talking about, and yet is not arrogant in his manners.
Why would I vote against BN?
1) I do not doubt Datuk Arif Shah Omar's capability, he looks like a nice man, unfortunately he stands in the wrong party. The fact is BN has not changed after GE-13 and will never change judging from their conduct recently.
2) Although the natural reaction of voters should be to vote for who can serve them well in the constituency, our country is at crossroads right now, and we should look at the bigger picture. Do we want a longkang serving MP, or do we want someone who can bring the nation's grievances to Parliament? Time and time again we put BN candidates with great track record on the stands, but yet they fail us when issues arise. Take for example the hike in fuel price, where all the BN MPs supported the motion.
3) There is only one reason why people still vote for a BN candidate, it's called self-interest. Only people who want to continue securing their business links would vote for BN.
Voters of Permatang Pauh, we have seen you fight ever since 1998, and all of us have emulated your conduct in the GE-13. I have no doubt a resounding victory will be delivered, the question is of what margin? And that is up to you Permatang Pauh voters. This is the time to show your dissatisfaction and protest against corruption, cronyism and racial politics.

Malaysia faces a decision making crisis

Malaysia faces a decision making crisis, not a succession crisis. The manner Badawi handling his 'succession plan' is ridiculous:

June 14, 2008- Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and his deputy Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak reaches an agreement on the right time for a leadership change, but no deadline announced. Badawi merely clarifies his 'great' working relationship with Najib, etc. This press release gave the impression that the PM is retiring very soon probably in a few weeks' time.

June15, 2008- headlines read 'Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has yet to set a precise date to transfer power to Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.' Also on the same day, Badawi says he will defend his post in the UMNO December elections. In April he had told people that he'd hang on to the PM post till the year 2010.

On June 19, SAPP makes an admirable move- to table the vote of no-confidence on the start of the Parliament session on June 23.

Who would have confidence with this PM's display of flip-flop attitude. My advice is Badawi, if you don't mean it, don't say it in public otherwise it will continue to make you look stupid.

UMNO bigwigs meet over party direction

SHAH ALAM: For two days, Umno leaders evaded reporters who camped at a hotel here, where a retreat for party supreme council members was held to discuss the party's direction and winning back the people's support.

Soon after the two-day meeting ended around noon yesterday, party president Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and his deputy Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak went off without meeting the media, while others party leaders declined to comment on the outcome of the meeting.

Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad merely said: “We talked about Umno strategic planning. This was more an opportunity for members to sit down and talk about what to do with the party.”

Asked whether there was a potential political setback in view of the petrol hike, he said: “I don't think so because in the end, there are other aspects of overall programmes that we are giving back to the people.

“What we have to emphasise is this is the first time we are reducing the subsidy for petrol,” he said.

When approached, Umno vice-president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said he did not have the authority to say anything about the event.

On whether the succession plan of the Prime Minister ws discussed, he said: “I have no right to say yes or no.”

On the outcome of the retreat, he said: “Very positive."

No need to meet la- it's a waste of time. Just abandon party.
