Hisham: Photo equipment seized as part of SOP

Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said the confiscation of memory cards and cameras belonging to journalists during the Bersih 3.0 rally were part of the police’s standard operating procedure (SOP).

Speaking at the Kuala Lumpur general hospital, Hishammuddin said this when asked why the items were seized since he claimed that the police had nothing to hide.
“I don’t know. This is the standard operating procedure of police…,” he said.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How can the minister contradict himself in one sentence? "I don't know" and "standard operating procedure" should not come in the same sentence.

For example, if you ask a surgeon what is the expensive, risky and painful procedure is to be taken, how much confidence would you have if the surgeon paraphased Hishammuddin and says "I don't know. This is the  standard operating procedure of the hospital...."?

So YB Teo Nie Ching is dirty

Ok, when Hishammuddin "I will apologise if anyone is offended" Hussien commented or "speculated" in Razak 's (the "are you a lawyer" ^acting^ for MACC) word, that YB Teo Nie Ching is "dirty", I wonder how did Hishammuddin arrive at that conclusion?

"Dirty" Teo Nie Ching at her sinister best? Let the people in Serdang decide.

Is he taking over Bung Mokhtar as the self proclaim bocor expert in the August House? Or is it a dirty mind with a dirty thought playing a dirty trick in a dirty game, or just like a still growing little boy resorting to name calling and sand kicking in the play ground because he is not getting his way?

Foong Poh Kuan, Teresa Kok, YB Jospehine, Elizabeth Wong and now Teo Nie Ching...call me paranoid but the Boy Cry Wolf in me can't help but notice a trend.

All I can say is,

1) "So is it right or wrong for Mirzan Mahathir to own shares in San Miguel Corp which which control 51% of San Miguel Brewery? "

2) "Ibnu Hakeem: Umno Youth deputy chief Khairy Jamaluddin clarified that he borrowed money to buy a substantial stake in fledgling financial advisory company ECM-Libra.

Exchange filings showed that Khairy bought 13 million shares at 71 sen per share in three separate transactions from acquaintance and ECM-Libra’s chairperson Kalimullah Masheerul Hassan, chief executive officer Lim Kian Onn and chief operating officer Chua Ming Huat.

Khairy has been a director of ECM-Libra since July 2004, not long after his father-in-law, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, succeeded Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister

According to Section 131 of the Companies Act, it is illegal for a company to make a loan to anyone (especially a director) to buy its own shares. In this case, ECM Libra is also a financial institution (a so-called investment bank) which means it is also under the purview of the Bafia (Banking and Financial Institutions Act). The Bafia has a few more restrictions than the Companies Act.

Since Khairy has made a public confession, the attorney-general and Bank Negara should investigate if there is any breach of either the Companies Act, the Bafia, or both."

3) KUALA LUMPUR: Kinabatangan MP Bung Mokhtar Radin pleaded guilty Tuesday at the Gombak Timur Lower Syariah court to committing polygamy without consent.

His second wife Zizie Ezette A Samad also pleaded guilty to marrying without the consent of the marriage registrar.

Both were released on oral bail of RM500 each in one surety.

Five other men, including Zizie’s three brothers also pleaded guilty at the same court to abetting Bung.

4) Ali Rustam Remains Malacca Chief Minister - Najib
2009-03-17 17:40

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Tuesday (17 March) Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam, who has been barred from contesting in the upcoming UMNO elections, will remain as the Malacca Chief Minister.

Najib said that he hoped Mohd Ali would accept the decision with an open heart.

He also urged him to continue contributing to the struggle of the party.

The UMNO Disclipinary Board found Mohd Ali guilty of violating party ethics for indulging in money politics and is prohibited from contesting the post of UMNO deputy president. (Bernama)

5) "Finance Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who is also the Prime Minister, said Bank Negara had revoked the licences of such money changers.

He added that action could be taken against anyone under Anti-Money Laundering Act 2001 for transferring funds outside Malaysia via money changers.

Najib said this in a written reply to Loke Siew Fook (DAP-Rasah) who had asked about the status of investigation into an allegation that Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan had remitted RM10mil to the United Kingdom via a money changer.

At a press conference in Parliament lobby, Loke and Tian Chua (PKR-Batu) urged Bank Negara to disclose the outcome of its investigation into cases of VIPs transferring funds outside Malaysia via money changers.

While Chua said a report had been lodged with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) last year against Mohamed, Loke, who is also a state assemblyman, said he had queried Mohamad during the Negri Sembilan state assembly in December last year.

“His reply was that I should ask the authorities,’’ said Loke."

Malaysia church torched amid Allah row

Left: How am I doing as Home Minister so far? OK right? A little anarchy is ok one. Haha, I screwed you guys in asses didn't I. Alright!!

From Reuters India
KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - A church in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur was firebombed early on Friday, gutting the first storey of the building in a residential area, amid a row over the use of the word "Allah" for the Christian God.

"It is confirmed that Desa Melawati church was burnt, at about 12.25 am in the morning. There were no fatalities. We are investigating the incident and suspect foul play," said Kuala Lumpur Chief Police Officer Mohammad Sabtu Osman.

A court ruling last week allowing Catholic newpaper The Herald to use "Allah" for the Christian God has been appealed by the government of the mainly Muslim nation of 28 million people.

The issue has threatened relations between the majority Malay Muslim population and the minority ethnic Chinese and Indian populations who practise a range of religions including Christianity, Hinduism and Buddhism.

Malaysian Muslims, who account for around 60 percent of the population, are set to protest on Friday against the ruling.

The church that was burned on Friday was part of a group called "The Assembly of God".

Many churches in Malaysia are situated in residential or retail areas and often occupy a small lot.
According to 2007 statistics, there are 333 Assembly of God churches in Malaysia.

"There are witness reports two persons on a motorbike came near the entrance and hurled in something looking like a petrol bomb. Our church is 90 percent gutted (on the first floor)," said church spokesman Kevin Ang from the Metro Tabernacle Assembly of God.

It is illegal for non-Muslims to proselytise to Muslims although freedom of worship for the mainly Buddhist, Christian and Hindu religious minorities who make up 40 percent of the population is guaranteed under the country's constitution.

The use of "Allah" has been common among non-English speaking Malaysian Christians in the Borneo island states of Sabah and Sarawak for decades and without any incident.

Left: Keep your cool while we burn down a few more churches okie? Hehe. Meanwhile, do not do anything that might aggravate the situation ok.

The Star
KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Musa Hassan has warned those planning to stage protest rallies against the use of the word “Allah” by non-Muslims to be cool-headed and not create problems. Otherwise, he said, police would not hesitate to take stern action against them.

The Inspector General of Police said police would monitor the situation, adding that those who posed any threat to the safety of the people and nation would face action.

“Do not do anything that might aggravate the situation.

“We must practise caution when dealing with religious issues because they are very sensitive,” Musa told reporters after opening a Innovative and Quality Manage-ment seminar for police here yesterday.

What does MCA stands for?

Normally I am more concern about Malaysia and Malaysians as a whole; rather than about my own race but today, maybe a bit too much of MCA news in the Chinese Press for the past few days, I caught a bug and decided to differ.

The Ong Tee Keat and Chua Soi Lek spat is nothing new. MCA No. 1 and No. 2 have always been like cats and dogs with the exception of Ong Ka Ting and Chan Kong Choy. (but in truth, my sister-in-law’s puppy grew up with her kittens and the beasts have more harmony between them than the Malays and non-Malays in the world according to Awang Selamat)

I just wonder what does MCA stands for, apart from their advertisement that they are always “fighting” for the Chinese. (Strange, since they are always in BN “fighting” for the rights of Chinese, just to flip it a bit, they are “fighting against” UMNO (Malays) and MIC (Indians) for “Chinese” interest so one wonders why the Controlled MSM never highlight about this “in-fighting” within Barisan Nasional coalition as a matter of concern).

I suppose Tan Cheng Lock’s MCA started off wanting to Manage Chinese Affairs. I suppose during the first few years, things were fine but over the years, with a party known for perpetual internal party struggles with Many Confusing Allegations and Many Confrontational Actions being thrown about, I would not be surprised if many Malaysian Chinese feel that their interest is not being served but Merely Cast Away and Marginalized Consistently Anyway while Malays have progressed and still progressing very well in terms of their political rights.

The rallying call for UMNO is “Malay Unity” while MCA hardly exclaim “Chinese Unity”, which, in a way, the currency MCA suppose to be dealing with as BN component party but this has not been applied with diligence and focus. Maybe MCA is too generous and Making Concession Amicably all the time as they are “fighting” for the Chinese rights, whatever that means. Personally I believe in Making Considered Approach in more logical in allocating the resource of the country for social justice and public wellbeing.

During the time when Mahathir Commanded All, MCA Meekly Cruised Along, silent during the judicial crises of 1988, leading us to the Lingam Gate and incredulous rulings passed as we witness the Perak debacle today.

Hence instead of protecting Chinese rights per MCA charter, maybe there is a case that they Merely Causing Agitation to the Chinese or even Made Chinese Angry.

While Utusan Malaysia has Made Condemning Accusations against the non-malays, MCA usually pay no heed as they may understand Utusan is Merely Creating Agitation without really meaning to let it degenerate into Major Conflict Anyway. Malaysia now is no longer in 1969.

Any major riot will destroy the economic pie which Malay has very substantial share and I hope Malays Can Assess this intelligently and rationally. Since Raja Niong claimed that on 1 August, RM200million or whatever were lost in few hours of protested without so much of a window being broken, I shudder to imagine what losses and harm an pre-arranged riot would cause and I hope all sensible Malaysians will not get involved.

The Cow Head Gate in Shah Alam is a case in point. MCA here did protest as much as a graveyard while after the Keris apology, there is More Clumsy Attempt from Hishammuddin to balance out the divide and rule tactics. Despite Most Condemnable Act of insensitivity, rudeness and recklessness, is MCA’s silence a sign of its Meekly Consenting Acceptance of the game? Mind you, should MBSA issues summons to the protestors for vandalizing, littering and spitting in public domain?

Annually, the Chinese top SPM and STPM top scorers cry and bitch about the scholarship hijack but one wonders if there is a case for manufactured crises for the Malaysia Complain Agency to justify its existence and says every year “Maybe Can Appeal”. Making Compassionate Appeals? More logical would be to Make Correct Allocations hence the best of our brains are developed, nurtured and retained to service the country and tax payers, rather than Money Chucked Away to less qualifying candidates.

Mind you, socially re-engineering is 1 thing but having incompetent doctors and leaders is a matter of life and death hence there is no room for Making Callous Appointments in getting the right people to do critical, life and death jobs.

Look at PKFTZ, had the parties involved Made Claims Accordingly then there is no problem but as the Pricewaterhouse report mentioned, some claims were Manipulatively Criminally Abusive, and now we Malaysians were made to pay for this Malignant Cancerous Abomination.

I am confused. The Zakaria and Toy properties were not investigated by MACC. Does that Make Corruption Acceptable? As the Teoh Beng Hock case shows, someone is still pretty against corruption practices but time of writing, we still do not know how much dirty money Teoh died for, was it RM2,400 or RM112?

The witnesses from MACC Mutters Conflicting Allegations like one said there was an argument while the other said no. Many Confusion Arises but one thing for sure, MCA seems more concern about its No.1 and former No. 2 WWF rather than some event that stirred the Chinese community here more than anything else.

After the RM10million can of worms is blown open, the Treasurer claims that MCA has …err.. RM2 billion in assets and that the alleged donation is both negligible and never been received by MCA. Fine, Money Can Accumulate but as a political party designed to assist the community it represents, how come so much money is retained and not distributed? One wonders how MCA can amass so much money also.

At the end of the day, any fight is a good fight if the fighters have noble intentions in their hearts. Whether MCA is fighting for the Chinese only or for the nation, I only hope is May Commonsense Arise and all Malaysians, regardless of racial and religious background can benefit from leaders who has Mature Caring Attitude. When time comes to exercise our democratic rights hopefully the quality of leadership available for Malaysians May Change Altogether.

Undoing the Internet

The decision to censor the internet in Malaysia has been on and then off; but is it really off? Let's checkout a few Ministers' Press statements of late:

"...internal threats in the form of comments via blogs are becoming more dangerous than external elements, as they sow the seeds of restlessness among the various races...", Datuk Seri Ng Yen Yen- MCA Vice President. The Star Aug 14, 2009.

"We want to look at how parents react to the extreme display of child pornography in the Net, Internet gambling and postings that can encourage terrorism...", Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim Information, Communications, Culture and Arts Minister. Bernama Aug 13, 2009.

"But it's got nothing to do with censorship...", Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim Information, Communications, Culture and Arts Minister. Bernama Aug 13, 2009.

Censorship or not, it depends how lawmakers in the country want to define the words 'censorship', 'terrorism', 'dangerous blogs' and so on. Worse still, political blogging against the Malaysian Government could be well labeled as cyber-terrrorism if there's any chance that the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 or Internal Security Act 1960 is 'revamped'. Yes, political blogging can become an outlawed activity in the future if 'non-BN' bloggers are seen to be terrorists. The stakes are high in the political arena when it comes to press freedom and dissemination of information on the internet- the 2008 General Election results was an example of this.

Looking at the table below, can anyone notice any similarities between Malaysia with any of the countries listed down here:

And today, the guy who hid behind the keris (guess who) says:
“We are not clamping or censoring the Internet. But when it comes to issues involving race, religion and our royalty, the Internet cannot be allowed to go on to de-stabilise the country and do whatever they like...”.

Thanks to the keris-raising scene by the person above 2 years back (a 'salivating' threat to the extinction of a percentage of the population in the country) which will be immortalized in pictures and video for generations to come, there was a raise in political awareness amongst citizens whom were sitting on the fence because the scene scared the crap out of them. Now, he's talking about the internet being a destabilizing factor? Indeed I find Malaysia quite near to either one or all of the political systems depicted in the table above.

Lastly, if you have noticed, the phrase "..we will not censor the internet..." appears many times in the Ministers' press statements, followed by other conditions. If you get my drift, this is how 'no censorship' of the internet is defined in Malaysia.

Funny way of showing support

According to Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, "kekalahan Barisan Nasional dalam pilihan raya kecil Parlimen Bukit Gantang dan Dewan Undangan Negeri Bukit Selambau tidak boleh dianggap sebagai tanda rakyat menolak kepimpinan Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak"

If that's the case, we Malaysians certainly have a funny way of showing our love and support. Perhaps the Education & Keris Minister can explain what we mere mortals and tax payers cannot comprehend.

Whatever nice things that Barisan Nasional comes out now, like review of ISA, visiting Chinatown, releasing some ISA detainees selectively, revocation of a unnecessarily ban on Suara KeAdilan and Harakah to begin with, bear in mind that

1) whatever BN does and will be doing, they are doing it with our money; this is what they should be doing anyway if they are getting paid

2) if there was no Pakatan Rakyat and 8 March Tsunami which comes from People's Power, there would not have been such a different tone of voices fron BN; try to picture the same people before and after 8 March.

Hishammuddin says sorry for wielding keris

Year 2005- '...let the keris soak in their blood...'

Year 2006- Do it again, this time with a lame duck CM

Year 2007- '...we will use the keris again...'

Year 2008- '...Sorry..'

Excerpt from The Star

Umno Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein has admitted that his raising of the keris was among the causes of the Barisan Nasional’s poor performance in the general election.
Apologising to all Malaysians for his action, he said: “If it affected anyone, I cannot run away from the reality of it. I apologise to the non-Malays and the Malays.
“To the non-Malays because of the fear to a symbol which was not my intention. And to the Malays for not being able to uphold their symbol of heritage.”
Describing it as a “sad lesson”, he said as a leader, he must be gracious and accept the consequences because the party came first.
The wielding of the keris was introduced at the Umno Youth assembly in 2005 to symbolise Malay tradition. At the start of the assembly, a procession carrying the keris would proceed to the hall to hand it to the Youth chief, who would then unsheathe and kiss it.
In the 2006 assembly, there was uneasiness among non-Malays when some speakers made racially slanted remarks about using the keris. Things were made worse as the proceedings of the assembly were telecast live.
MCA and several other Barisan component party leaders criticised the use of the keris in such a manner.
However, Hishammuddin had then defended his action, saying the keris was a symbol of Malay culture.
Hishammuddin, who is the Education Minister, however did not want to say if the tradition of kissing the keris would be stopped at future Umno Youth assemblies.
What a racist dickhead we have for an Education Minister. I accept his apology, but I have also got to thank him for opening our eyes. It was divine intervention and not Hisham's act alone. The keris incident made me realized that the 'social contract' between UMNO, MCA, MIC and other component parties was a pact with the devil, not an agreement for hope, peace and harmony. The first episode took place on November 2005; and subsequently a year later, both at UMNO AGMs. By the second time time Hisham wielded his keris in public, many Malaysian citizens had made up their minds for the year 2008 Elections.

Update:

To balance the tone of this blog posting, please check out Rocky's Bru and Hard-T's view point on keris waving.

Racism and its impact on Malaysia

It's right to say Ketuanan Rakyat in lieu of Ketuanan Melayu. I'm referring to Anwar's very recent speech at Kampung Baru on the eve of the expiry of his ban from Malaysian politics. The term Ketuanan Melayu is deeply entrenched in racism- a slogan concocted by Umno politicians to acquire buy-in from the Malay masses. Ketuanan Melayu depicts the scenario whereby the Malay race is 'boss' to other ethnic groups in Malaysia, albeit reluctance acceptance from other non-Malay ethnic groups but due to the social contract set out in Section 153 of the Federal Constitution of Malaysia. This of course, has helped Barisan Nasional win elections (national and party elections)… till the year 2008 that is.

The Umno administration has been singing the same tune until the cows came home- though on the surface accepted by all races in Malaysia, the Ketuanan Melayu concept did not get us anywhere but served only to create more brain drain. Malaysia's population is roughly cut up by the following composition- Malay (above 50%), Chinese (above 23%), Indian (above 7%) and Others (20%). I was internet- researching on migration statistics of people moving out of Malaysia when I stumbled upon some astounding facts- there are about 5.3 million ethnic Chinese in Malaysia but this figure is overshadowed by 6.2 million Malaysian Chinese staying out of Malaysia. I could not find statistics on Indian race migration from Malaysia though. Economics-wise, in terms of GDP growth in 2007, Malaysia (5.9%) ranks after China (10.7%), India (9.2%), Vietnam (8.2%), Singapore (7.9%) and Hong Kong (6.8%). The sub-6% growth is still 'okay' by the sleeping PM and Bank Negara standards eventhough we have slipped, overtaken by Vietnam, India and on a few occasions Burma, Thailand and Indonesia. In terms of growth Vietnam was already 6% back in the year 2003.

Malaysia is not doing too bad in terms of GDP per capita- in 2007, seeing an increase from prior years- it is ahead of Thailand ($9.2K), Indonesia ($3.9K), India ($3.8K), Vietnam ($3.1) and Burma ($1.8K); but behind Hong Kong ($37.3), Australia ($33.33) and Singapore ($31.4K). But at $12.9K, Malaysia is about 41% (nearly half!) of its neighbor Singapore in terms of citizen wealth.

The Ketuanan Melayu concept is an enclosed apartheid concept- it fails to view nation building in a holistic perspective by shutting off other ethnic groups from full participation. The irked and irritated non-Malays leave Malaysia gradually bringing along their valuable skill sets and ideas to other countries thus draining Malaysia of a very scarce resource- brain power.

Years from now, when the Malay population moves up from 50% to say 95%, there will be very little difference in terms of Bumiputera rights between Ali and his neighbor because the vast majority by then would all have special rights. If everyone has special rights what's so special about it then. If all that is left are tuan (bosses), where are the workers then?

Think big picture. Abolish all racial discrimination.

GDP- the total dollar amount of goods and services produced in a country.

GDP growth rate- an important indicator of economic health- the growth rate is the percentage increase or decrease of GDP from the previous measurement cycle.
