Acid Attacks: PDRM dragging their feet

The splasher attacks began on March 2 after eight students and a teacher from SK Bukit Bandaraya in Jalan Bangkung, Bangsar, were splashed with a burning substance by a motorcyclist. Lee Lam Thye's off-the-mark comments

"...brutality, revenge and outright cruelty were becoming a norm in many of  our movies and dramas which feature brutal killings and grisly murders...."- Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye.


When I saw Lee Lam Thye's comments in the news yesterday- I really tried hard to recall which "violent" movie or movies could have provoked the suspects to do such a nasty act on Datuk Sosilawati and her friends.

This is more of art imitating life, and not vice versa right. The root cause of the killings is greed, and not movies?

However, I can think of few movies or TV shows which had lots of revenge plots and their characters brutally killed; some killed over and over again 'cos they wouldn't die:

I remember years back every 'violent' act in every movie was censored- up to the point of the viewer loosing continuity of the plot. Tan Sri Lee- you aren't gonna put us through this again are you. Can you check the rising costs of cinema tickets instead.

Striking fear into criminals- a Malaysia styled Fast and Furious movie

The article above appears in the NST (and a few other dailies) today. It's the 202nd Police Day the the PDRM's spanking new Mistubishi Evo 10 is on display on location in Pulapol. We know the intention of getting the Evos are for high-speed car chases on Malaysian roads where the standard Proton Waja patrol car is no match for criminals' higher powered cars. However I have a few questions in mind on these things:

1)Can't the PDRM set up roadblocks to stop criminals instead of chasing them at 300++ kph on the highways. What happened to the usual modus-operandi of barricading the highway at toll stops, etc and line-up their PDRM trigger-happy balaclava-clad personnel for a happy shooting spree.

2)Will there be collateral damage if the high-speed chases take place on Malaysia's trunk roads ie kampong roads. What about the kids playing by road-sides and the motocylists without helmets in those kampong areas near the trunk roads.

3)Will this prompt the criminals to get even higher powered cars to match the PDRM Evos? Me thinks the PDRM Evos will only strike fear into innocent existing Subaru, Evo and other mod-car owners because of the increased likely hood of getting their cars stolen.

4)Who are PDRM trying to emulate?

Break-in at Wangsa Maju school

WANGSA MAJU KUALA LUMPUR , March 17- 3 foreigners broke into the compound of SJKC Mun Yee at Taman Teratai early Tuesday morning. After overpowering the sole security guard, the suspects made their way to the first floor of the school's administrative block and forced entry into the school staff room by shattering its glass window with a fire extinguisher. The suspects escaped with a microwave oven. No one was hurt.

By afternoon it was reported that the police had not yet made their way to the crime scene.

Robbed in Wangsa Maju

Recently a guy was robbed right in front of the Public Bank opposite Jaya Jusco in Wangsa Maju. The thief got away, but the victim recognised him somewhere outside a 7-11 store at another area in Wangsa Maju sometime later. The suspect was with an accomplice on a motorbike. A chase ensued and ended with the victim knocking down the suspects' motorbike with his car. The two suspects fled on foot but one was cornered by residents as he ran deeper in the housing area. The suspect was being bashed up as residents called up the 999 number. Since the police squad did not arrive after half an hour (the nearest police station is about 10 minutes away) some residents called up a neighbor (who is a police) who in turn called up the police station. A squad car arrived minutes later. The police pressed the bashed-up suspect for information and shortly a few other suspects were taken into custody.

By the way did anyone realise that it is a police tactic to delay response time by 30-40 minutes when a suspect is caught by members of the public, so as to allow the public to hentam the suspect a bit.

Highway car hijack

An associate of mine lost his just-bought Camry a year ago on the NKVE. The couple were on the way back from work when another Camry bumped into them from behind. As this couple alighted from their vehicle to 'settle' the matter, 4 guys emerged from the other Camry and apprehended the couple. The guy was slashed, while his wife was shuffled into their car by the two other fellows. The two cars drove off, leaving the guy victim by the road-side. For the wife, there is little guessing on the outcome. OK, the rape did not happened because she opened her car door and bailed herself out right in the middle of the highway. Both husband and wife was hospitalized for sometime, absent from work due to medical leave. Their car is not found till today.

No need to look far- even in Wangsa Maju there are numerous car hijacks and car thefts.

Crime and Malaysians

Noticed that I have omitted the race of the victims and the 'suspects'. Why is that so? Because it's a waste of time. Who cares which race committed the crime. The victims are us, any race any time. While there are demos and protests on racial grounds of Kugan the deceased car thief suspect, the fact exists there are brutal car thefts and there is that police brutality which guarantees a good bash-up on any suspect. The PDRM is stupid. The Minister of Internal Security is stupider- speaking harshly and arresting public protesters; 'investigating' the MPs who showed up at the mortuary at the request of the deceased's family will only deepen public sentiment of hatred towards the PDRM and the BN administration. And of late, conspiracy theories have cropped up on 'why' Kugan was 'murdered'. Can't blame the bloggers because they are sharp and think on the fly. If I've had my way I would not give the PDRM force another cent of increment. Who cares whether many of them are living below the poverty line. The police, as a collective whole, are failing in their jobs to protect the public.

Meanwhile the crimes are still happening and at most times the public is compelled to take the law into their own hands to protect themselves.

Meanwhile, two house breakins occurred over the last 2 days in Taman Bunga Raya, Wangsa Maju. According to witnesses, the robbers escaped on foot.

Molotov cocktail attack on Teresa's parents' house

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 27 (Bernama) -- The house of the parents of Seputeh Member of Parliament Teresa Kok in Jalan Ipoh here has been hit by a molotov cocktail.

It was confirmed by Teresa when contacted Saturday. She will hold a press conference this afternoon at her parents' house on the incident.

Sentul district police chief ACP Zakaria Pagan said the incident happened at about 2.55am but no one was hurt as the bomb did not explode.

During the incident, Teresa's parents and younger sibling were home.

High crime rate

Junaidy- how's your situation now? I feel sad about this.


My dad's car was stolen sometime back but it never came back in one piece (came back shot up) because it was used in an arm robbery. In Wangsa Maju my neighbors' cars and my own vehicle was broken (mine- twice). However, Ping Ping's (please refer 'Comments' in the blog posting before this) case is serious- whereby there was direct threat from the criminal and potential bodily harm.


The first level of crime prevention, crime deterrence, is not working here because there is no police presence in Wangsa Maju. Most of the police presence are mostly concentrated in the police station itself, kedai mamak and roadblocks during the festive seasons. There are patrols maybe, but they are not enough. My brother was robbed in front of his house. I'm trying to say that there's no offensive mode in tackling crime- police are still quite relaxed and immune to the ordeal and stress the affected resident went through.


This issue has to be tackled at the national level. To revamp the situation the relevant people has to be changed. IGP- please don't talk only- honor your words to free up the FRU for crime prevention if it needs to be done so.

Dato' Yusof Haslam who's staying next door to us- it's time to have an accurate portrayal of police in 'Gerak Khas'. If you can manage to throw in some reality in I bet you 'Gerak Khas' will be the most tuned-in series. Police do not speak and behave anywhere near the tv series' characters. In fact, people do not speak like this in real life. Ironically many of the scenes are shot in Melawati, Wangsa Maju areas where crime hotspots are.

Concerning low policemen wages- my opinion is push it back to the police to lobby for higher wages. It could take quite some time maybe up till budget time or longer if it's addressed at all. Hence the immediate issues at hand are lack of manpower. Police should revamp their processes to arrest this problem with IMMEDIATE effect:

-curb police 'lepaking'

-reschedule their timetable to allow for more ground patrol

-employ civilians to carry out clerical task/ non-core tasks.

-get auxiliary police force deployment.

It is not acceptable for the police to throw us that 'lack of recruits excuse'. They must demonstrate some effort to think out of the box, improve the situation within limited resources. People are dying out there.

Crime in Wangsa Maju

I used to jog regularly near the area which I lived but not anymore. It has been a year already. The high crime rate made me insecure eventhough I'm not a small size chap. Arming myself with a parang while jogging is impractical, really. That's why I posted a comment at the Wee Choo Keong blog - what's his plan on tackling crime. Almost every neighbor in my street has experience car break-ins and mugging. Give us more details please. I need to start jogging again.
